Mzinda Wanga Platform is a citizen engagement initiative where citizens can engage with elected Councilors and the local City Council as well as the Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM) and the Water Board on service delivery. It is a place where debate on topical issues is stimulated and citizens can send in service delivery reports. Take a look here.
As part of the activities of the project, mHub and Citizens for Justice have been holding community awareness campaigns in a number of wards in Lilongwe City, Malawi’s capital, aimed at introducing residents to the Mzinda platform. From 17 August 2016, the team from the two organisations have been raising awareness also on people’s rights and the duties of their leaders, service providers and city councils.
The awareness campaigns were launched in Area 36, Phwetekere Ward and campaigns were held in nine more wards between 17 and 22 of August 2016. These wards include Mvunguti in Area 25, Tsabango, Kaliyeka, Mchesi and Chilinde. The campaigns were held together with councillors for their respective wards so as to inspire confidence in the citizens that their leaders know about the platform and are ready to respond to their reports. Councilor for Area 36 ward, Mrs Stella Khamula, applauded the Mzinda team for the initiative and said she believed people will use the platform to engage their leaders.
